In 1932 at the age of 26 Grandmaster “Joe” Jose Lamayo Viñas officially founded his family’s system and started teaching Viñas Arnis to his relatives and some close friends in the City of Talisay, Barrio Concepcion Negros Occidental.

He also traveled back and forth from Bacolod City Negros Occidental soon after 1932 and started teaching there as well. He eventually made his permanent residency in Bacolod City where later in the 1960’s he founded the Lapu Lapu Viñas Arnis (club) to promote a variation of his family’s art.

As a note this organization is not affiliated with any of the different clubs using the “Lapu Lapu” prefix in existence today.

The Viñas Arnis system is originally based off the bolo. The system is primarily made up of Sword, Stick, Knife, and Empty hand movements.

Starting late in 2013 Russell T Mackler began the process of documenting all of the details he knew about the system. In 2014 Russell T Mackler and Grandmaster Nonong began working together to document all of his deeper knowledge and history with the intent of systematizing the complete Viñas Arnis family system. We have decided it is time to officially start propagating his family’s system internationally.
