Description: 

The shield face is paneled in an hourglass form, a sacred talisman signifying divine presence (Florina Capistrano-Baker, “Divine Spheres of Protection” in Protection, Power, and Display: Shields of Island Southeast Asia and Melanesia (ed.by Andrew Tavarelli, Goston: Boston College Museum of Art, 1995)
