Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System

Affiliate of Arnis Philippines, member of the Philippine Olympic Committee

Following years of intensive study, research and personal experience in the Filipino Martial Arts, Tuhon Salvador Moralez, Jr. developed and founded the Kilos Paru Paro Eskrima Filipino System as a Filipino martial art that makes use of a great deal of concept training with enhanced critical thinking practices in order to accomplish the application of martial arts to a variety of different situations.

Paru Paro Eskrima is a highly-evolved, counter assault system designed to meet the needs of society’s present day conflict issues, while retaining the values and traditions of the warrior arts of the Philippines. Confronted with ever-changing times and attitudes, martial arts must evolve. Paru Paro Eskrima offers a dynamic philosophy in the training of the martial arts that meets, face-on, this evolution.

Characteristics of the system

Kilos Paru Paro means movement of the butterfly, so named for the characteristic mental and physical movements which are typical of this system. The system itself aims to reflect the relentless variation of movement in combat which is typified by the variations of a butterfly in flight.

The key to this system is a working knowledge of the angles of attack and the ability to strike the opponent at angles that are difficult to detect – giving it a “blind spot” approach.

The system works off of angles and complementary angles, both of which are arduously trained. Impact and edged-weapons based, the system also employs distinctive actions of opening, closing, and rotational movement that define and explain it when applied.

Acknowledging its roots in what is generally recognized as the Filipino Martial Arts systems and styles from the Philippine Islands such as Kali, Eskrima, and Arnis, and like many other precedent and contemporaneous systems in employing an integrative approach, the Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System has also evolved with its own uniquely-styled combative and self-defense methods and tactics focusing on constant, contiguous movement (hence, the name).

Origins of the system

Salvador Moralez began his martial arts journey by training with the Japanese Army on Ft. Bliss in 1963. He was introduced to Filipino Martial Arts in the 1980’s, and had the rare opportunity to learn and share techniques with Grandmaster Leo T. Gaje Jr., Grandmaster Edgar Sulite, Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby, Guro Ner Riodeca and Guro Ted Lucay Lucay.

It was in the course of these developments that Mr. Moralez and Grandmaster Edgar Sulite became good friends. It was also at this time that, with brotherly encouragement from Grandmaster Sulite, Mr. Moralez began to craft his own system.

Although already a recognized Master of the martial arts in his own right, Sulite suggested that the study and understanding of Filipino Martial Arts would greatly enhance Mr. Moralez’ overall ability as a martial artist.

With the passage of time and the continued progression of the now burgeoning system, Grandmaster Sulite would remain a great inspiration for, then, Master Moralez who, to this day, is always open and available to any exchange of ideas or techniques.  (Salvador Moralez received his Doctorate – PhD – in martial arts in 1994.)

In 1998, through the notable efforts, recommendations, and research of Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby, Director of the United States Kali Association, and in consultation with other members of the Association this new system achieved its status of recognition with Master Moralez attaining the recognition of Grandmaster Salvador Moralez, Jr. Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby had the distinctive honor of naming the system which would become known to the world as the Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System.

Essentially, it is through the wisdom and techniques of the Kali, Eskrima, and Arnis systems, and all the teachers that walked before him, that Tuhon Salvador Moralez, Jr. derived the Filipino System today recognized as the Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System.

Since it’s inception, the system has continued to grow and gain international attention and affiliation. In the year 2000, Grandmaster (Punong Guro) Salvador Moralez Jr. was awarded the title of Tuhon (meaning head leader) at his induction into the Filipino Martial Arts Hall of Fame in El Paso Texas.

This great honor was bestowed upon him by Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby, Director of the United States Kali Association.  At this time, Tuhon received as well his Doctorate and 10th Degree Black Belt ranking in Filipino Martial Arts.

In 2005, Tuhon Sal Moralez and the Kilos Paru Paro System were recognized and made an affiliate of Arnis Philippines, 33rd member of the Philippine Olympic Committee.

In 2007, Tuhon Salvador Moralez Jr. was recognized as a 10th Degree Black Belt with Shinjimasu International Martial Arts Association, and was granted a seat on the Grandmaster Council.

On August 4th, 2007, he was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Outstanding Grandmaster (Texas) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tuhon Moralez has taught his system of counter assault tactics to hundreds of agents in the Texas Department of Public Safety Narcotics Division and various other related departments on both a state and local level within the state of Texas.

Tuhon Moralez is the recognized Soke (Head of family) of Hsin Lu Chuan Shu Tong International.
